Strait of. a strait between Vancouver Island (Canada) and NW Washington (US). Length: about 129 km (80 miles). Width: about 24 km (15 miles)

Juan de Fuca 

a strait between Vancouver Island (Canada) and the Olympic Peninsula (USA). The strait leads from Puget Sound and the Strait of Georgia into the open waters of the Pacific Ocean. The Strait of Juan de Fuca is approximately 140 km long and 16.5 km wide, with depths of as much as 256 m at its Pacific entrance. It has rocky, precipitous shores, and its tidal currents have velocities of 4 to 8 km/hr. The sea route to the Canadian ports of Victoria and Vancouver and the American ports of Seattle and Tacoma passes through the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
