Çukurova

a lowland plain in southern Turkey, situated between the Central Taurus and the Mediterranean Sea. The Çukurova extends along the coast for 150 km, reaching widths of as much as 70 km. The Ceyhan and Seyhan rivers flow across the plain. Insular mountain massifs rise above the Çukurova, the highest being the Misis Mountains, with a maximum elevation of 789 m.

The Çukurova has a Mediterranean climate and is the hottest region of Turkey. The country’s main cotton-producing region, it also produces grain crops and citrus fruits and has plantations for the cultivation of olives and sugarcane. The cities of Adana, Ceyhan, and Mersin are situated on the Çukurova.
