Dhorme, Édouard Paul
Born Jan. 15, 1881, in Armentiéres; died Jan. 19, 1966. French Semitistand Assyriologist. From 1905 to 1931, Dhorme was a professor at the French Bible and Archaeology School in Jerusalem. He was a professor at the Sorbonne from 1933 to 1951 and at the Collége de1 France from 1945 to 1951. He became a member of the Academy of Inscriptions in 1948. In 1930, Dhorme, at the same time as C. Virolleaud and H. Bauer, deciphered the Ugaritic alphabet, and in 1946 he partially deciphered the linear (pseudohieroglyphic) script from Byblos.
