Ózd (ōzd), city (1991 est. pop. 43,020), NE Hungary, near the Slovakian border. The city was a model industrial center under Communist rule, with ironworks, steelworks, and lignite mines, but has subsequently suffered from economic stagnation and high unemployment. About one fourth of the city's inhabitants are Gypsies. How to thank TFD for its existence?
