Župa

    0.01 sec.
Župa

a type of administrative and territorial unit among the South Slavs and Western Slavs. The term is first mentioned in sources of the mid-tenth century as an administrative division of the early feudal Croatian state. However, as society developed, the concept of the Źupa changed. The Źupa was retained the longest in Croatia (until 1918) and Czechoslovakia, whose system of administrative divisions in 1920–27 was called the Župni zřizeni. In many cases the Župa was transformed into a place name. Such regions include a district of Bosnia; a region of Serbia, southwest of the city of Kruševac; a region of Dalmatia between Dubrovnik and Cavtat; and Velika Župa and Mala Župa, mountain regions in the valley of the Lim River.
