.com
(1) (.COMmercial) A top-level Internet domain used by businesses, although individuals register .com names as well. Since .com (dot-com) was the original commercial domain name on the Internet, it is the most coveted, and all major companies in the U.S. and many companies worldwide have .com Web sites. Web browsers default to adding .com to the end of the URL if no other domain suffix, such as .org or .edu, is typed in. See .name, Internet domain name and dot-com.

(2) A type of executable program. See COM file.
