These data evidenced the critical role of the prenyloxy chain fixed at C7 of the 1,2-benzopyrone ring in the antiproliferative effect of umbelliprenin and aurapten and, attributed the higher efficacy of umbelliprenin to the replacement of the geranyloxy group of auraptene at C7 by an aliphatic sesquiterpenyloxy group.
Umbelliprenin differs from auraptene by the presence of an acyclic sesquiterpenene group in place of the geranyl group at C7-OH of the 1,2-benzopyrone ring.
