pentanol

[′pen·tə‚nȯl]
(organic chemistry)
C5H11OH A toxic organic alcohol; 1-pentanol is n-amyl alcohol, primary; 2-pentanol is methylpropylcarbinol; 3-pentanol is diethylcarbinol; tert-pentanol is tert-amyl alcohol; pentanols are used in pharmaceuticals, as chemical intermediates, and as solvents.

Both TDI and MDI results show relative magnitudes of heats of reaction in the sequence: 1-pentanol > 2-pentanol > 3-pentanol > tert-pentanol.
The reaction between isopropenyl pivalate and 1-pentanol was also studied at 80[degrees]C using toluene as the solvent and p-toluene sulfonic acid as the catalyst.
In some cases a modifier, such 1-propanol, 1-butanol, or 1-pentanol, is added to decrease the retention factors and increase the efficiencies.
The reagents used to prepare the micellar mobile phases were SDS (99% purity), 1-propanol, 1-butanol, 1-pentanol, disodium hydrogen phosphate, and HCl (Merck).
The following target compounds were based on a review of the literature (8,11,22,25,28,30) and include the major terpenes, aldehydes, and alcohols that have been associated with wood products: benzaldehyde, benzene, borneol, camphene, 3-carene, p-cymene, heptanal, heptane, 2-heptanone, 3-heptanone, hexanal, limonene, nonanal, octanal, octane, t-2-octenal, pentanal, pentane, 1-pentanol, [alpha]-pinene, [beta]-pinene, toluene, xylenes.

Styrene, divinyl benzene (DVB), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN), and 1-pentanol were purchased from Sigma Aldrich and used without further purification.
476 g of SDS and 2 ml of 1-pentanol in 200 ml of deionized water and sonicated for 4 h.

Commercial TTIP, 1-pentanol, and DEOA were purchased from Wako Pure Chemical Industries, Ltd.
Deionized water, 1-pentanol, and DEOA were mixed in a separable flask with a condenser connected to a trap.
