100 Gigabit Ethernet

The next generation of Ethernet. In 2006, the IEEE formed the Higher Speed Study Group (HSSG) within the 802.3 Working Group to develop the technology for 100GbE transmission. Various schemes using parallel wavelengths are expected to be researched. See Ethernet.

The effort to create a 100 Gigabit Ethernet is underway in the IEEE802.
Working in conjunction with the routing capabilities of the Force10 TeraScale E-Series is the five Terabits per second backplane, which provides the necessary capacity to support 100 Gigabit Ethernet.
