| Camellia is a 128-bit block cipher (with allowable key lengths of
128, 192, and 256 bits) that was jointly developed by NTT and Mitsubishi
in 2000. Both models feature rechargeable batteries with
eight hours of talk time, a 100-foot range, 128-bit encryption, and
mute. The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) includes a 256-bit key; the
previous Data Encryption Standard (DES), which the government adopted in
1977, used a 56-bit key and was surpassed by the 128-bit encryption
adopted in the private sector in the early 1990s. |
