Born on the 25th January 1921, the only child of Leonard Chandos and Caroline May Clayton, wife of Raymond John Harbach (all deceased), and mother to Gillian Judith and Geoffrey who survive her.

I see I wrote in Al-Hayat, after Hamas won 76 seats compared to Fatah's 43 in the Legislative Council on 25th January 2006, in an election which was seen as one of the fairest in the Arab world at that time:- "It [Fatah] lost the general election not because everybody loves Hamas, but because the previous Palestinian Authority had lost control of the situation and was crony-ridden, corrupt and falling apart.
