surround sound

An audio recording and playback system that uses five or more channels plus a subwoofer. Used to enhance movies and games, the latest surround sound technologies are Dolby Atmos and DTS-X, although there are several earlier surround processing methods that are in widespread use (see Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital and DTS). Following are the various speaker placements for surround sound. See 10-foot user interface, object-based audio, 3D audio and imaging.
