CMX recently released CMX-MicroNet, which is a unique TCP/IP stack that is targeted for 8-bit processor target platforms.
Designed to provide high security and efficiency on various platforms, the algorithm supports a 128-bit block size and 128-, 192- and 256-bit key lengths and enables flexibility in software and hardware implementation, including 32-bit processors widely used over the Internet and many applications and 8-bit processors used in smart cards, cryptographic hardware, and embedded systems.
He recalls, "In one case, a job-shop owner, based on his experience with low-end ($500) programmable controllers, removed a five-year-old 8-bit processor on a milling machine, and put on a 32-bit processor.
