IEEE 802 IEEE standards for wired local area networks (LANs) and metropolitan area networks (MANs). The IEEE specification for LANs breaks the data link layer into two sublayers: the LLC (Logical Link Control) and MAC (Media Access Control). The LLC provides a common interface to the MAC layers, which specify the access method used. Standards for wireless networks are covered under IEEE 802.11 (see 802.11). See Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet.
