Web: www.scenica1a.org Description: Paralleling a coastal barrier island and the Atlantic coast, byway offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and includes important sites in Florida history such as the Colonial Spanish Quarter, Fort Matanzas, Castillo de San Marcos, and Fort Mose. The byway passes through Saint Augustine, the nation's oldest continually occupied European settlement. Recreational visitors traveling the byway can enjoy swimming, fishing, and wildlife viewing, including the Florida Birding Trail.
Legth: 72 miles. Start/Endpoint: Begins at the Duval/Saint Johns County boundary line near Ponte Vedra Beach and continues south along State Road A1A until its terminus at the Flagler/Volusia County Line south of Flagler Beach. Time to Allow: 2 hours. Designation/Year: National Scenic Byway (2002).
