The AIN provides enhanced voice, video and data services and dynamic routing capabilities by using two different networks. The actual voice call is transmitted over a circuit-switched network, but the signaling is done on a separate packet-switched network known as SS7. Hydroelectric power plants are situated on the Rhône and Ain rivers. Agriculture includes the cultivation of grains and sugar beets and the breeding of swine and poultry; livestock are raised on pastureland in the Jura Mountains.
