ALT key

Alt key
A keyboard key that is pressed with a letter or digit key to command the computer. For example, in Windows, holding down the Alt key and pressing F displays the File menu if it is a current option on screen. Pressing Alt-Tab toggles between active windows (see Alt-Tab). See Flip 3D.

Now, hold the Alt key down and notice that the '+' sign next to the tool cursor changes to '-'; holding the Alt key down puts the cursor in a 'subtract from selection' mode.
The now called Control (Ctrl), Left Shift, and Alt keys were arranged in a line next to the function keys.
Simply click the Alt key while in Windows Explorer for the familiar classic File menu.
