APDEX

(Application Performance inDEX) An open standard for measuring user satisfaction. It is typically used to rate the responsiveness of an application such as how long it takes to get a result after clicking the mouse. Users rate their perception as "satisfied," "tolerating" or "frustrated." The APDEX formula is the number of satisfied users plus half the tolerating users divided by all users. Oddly enough, frustrated users are ignored. The result is a rating from 0.0 (nobody satisfied) to 1.0 (everybody satisfied). A score of 0.5 would be middle of the road. Tests show that the Ipanema System guarantees the performance of business-critical applications by maintaining Good to Excellent Apdex scores (mostly excellent) for all the business-critical applications across the range of scenarios tested.
We congratulate Ipanema and The Tolly Group for using the Application Performance Index (Apdex) in their comprehensive testing," said Peter Sevcik, president of the Apdex Alliance and NetForecast.
The Apdex Alliance is a collection of companies collaborating to promote an application performance metric called Apdex.
The company helps enterprises align application performance with business needs using a process based on the Apdex standard.
WildPackets is a founding member of the Apdex industry consortium, whose mission is to provide IT organizations with metrics that provide real insight into application performance and user satisfaction.
Representing a fresh new approach to application analysis, Apdex is designed to gauge the level of satisfaction or quality of experience (QoE) of end-users, ranging from frustrated to tolerating to satisfactory.
In the new release of the WildPackets OmniAnalysis Platform, the company's application analysis expert has been extended to compute Apdex scores for all popular applications and user activities, such as web surfing, checking email, SQL-based order entry and CRM applications.
A program within the IEEE-ISTO, the Apdex Alliance is a growing group of companies collaborating to establish an application performance index.
The goals of the Apdex Alliance, which was founded in 2004, are to research effects of application performance on users and businesses, specify methodologies for application performance measurement and reporting, and advance IT management processes through the use of Apdex, which is a numerical measure of user satisfaction with the performance of enterprise applications.
The Apdex Alliance and IEEE-ISTO partnership will support the development of a standardized method of reporting, benchmarking, and tracking application performance," said Peter Sevcik, founder and Executive Director of the Apdex Alliance.
The Apdex Alliance has an important mission, and we are excited to be able to work in partnership with them to facilitate their day-to-day activities," said Peter Lefkin, COO/CFO of the IEEE-ISTO.
