Abakan Range

a mountain range in southern Siberia that rises at the watershed of the Abakan (of the Enisei River basin), Tom’, and Lebed’ rivers (of the Ob’ River basin). About 300 km long, its average elevation is 1,400–1,700 meters, with the highest point 1,984 meters. The range is composed of metamorphic rocks and intrusions of granite, gabbro, and diorite. The predominant relief is heavily dissected and of low elevation. Dark coniferous taiga forests (silver fir, spruce, and cedar) grow on the slopes up to an elevation of 1,700 meters. In the higher elevations, the Abakan Range has a mountainous tundra.
