Abd-al-Rahman al- Rafii

Rafii, Abd-al-Rahman al- 

Born 1889 in al-Mansurah; died 1966 in Cairo. Egyptian historian and government and political figure; educated as a lawyer.

A member of the Watan party from 1907 to 1953, Rafi became one of the party’s leaders. He was a parliamentary deputy from 1923 to 1944, a senator from 1944 to 1949, and also minister of supplies in 1949. Rafi took part in the national liberation movement. His works included a 16-volume history of modern and contemporary Egypt, which reflected a patriotic and anti-imperialist viewpoint.
