Abrikosov, Andrei L’vovich 

Born Nov. 1 (14), 1906, in Simferopol’. Actor; became People’s Artist of the USSR in 1968. Member of the CPSU since 1950.

Abrikosov’s stage career began in 1926. From 1931 to 1937 he was a member of the Moscow Realistic Theater, where he played, among other parts, the title role in Shakespeare’s Othello and Gromov in Pogodin’s Aristocrats. In 1938 he joined the Vakhtangov Theater, playing Semen Kotko in I Am a Son of the Working People by V. Kataev, General Ognev in Korneichuk’s The Front, Ignat Gordeev in Gorky’s Foma Gordeev, and Ragozin in Kirill Izvekov by Fedin and Meskheteli.

Abrikosov made his movie debut as Grigorii Melekhov in the film version of Sholokhov’s The Quiet Don in 1931. He then moved on to play Gavrila Oleksich in Alexander Nevsky (1938), Stepan Razin in the film of the same name (1939), Fedor Kolychev in Ivan the Terrible (1945, 1958), and Prince Vladimir in Il’ia Muromets (1956). He received the State Prize of the USSR in 1941 and was given two orders as well as various medals.
