Abu Al-Fida, Ismail Ibn Ali
Born 1273 in Damascus; died Oct. 27, 1331, in Hamah. Arab historian and geographer. Of the clan of the Ayyubid emirs of Hamah (Syria). Abu al-Fida’s principal works are Mukhtasarfi Tarikh al-Bashar (Abridgment of the History of the Human Race), which encompasses events up to 1329 (in large part an abridged presentation of the works of Ibn al-Asir), and Taqwim al-Buldan (Geography of the Countries), a geography in tables with local coordinates.
