A firewall protects all computer
systems within a defined boundary and allows only authorized users
outside the boundary to access computer systems within the boundary;
users not listed in the firewall server's access list are excluded
from computer systems within the boundary. Miller, an assistant director of the Secret Service, which issues
passes for access to the White House, said his agency routinely - almost
on a monthly basis - updates the access list, now numbering some 24,000
people, and passes it along to White House personnel and security
officials. Since a major component of modern application security is
