(organic chemistry)
C3H5(OH)2OOCCH3A thick, colorless, hygroscopic liquid with a boiling point of 158°C, made by heating glycerol and strong acetic acid; soluble in water and alcohol; used in tanning, as a dye solvent and food additive, and in explosives. Also spelled acetine.
