eosin [′ē·ə·sən] (organic chemistry) C20H8O5Br4 A red fluorescent dye in the form of triclinic crystals that are insoluble in water; used chiefly in cosmetics and as a toner. Also known as bromeosin; bromo acid; eosine; tetrabromofluorescein.
