active monitor
The station (network adapter) that controls the token in a Token Ring network. The active monitor, which is determined through a contention process, maintains clock synchronization and detects and corrects errors in the token framing. See Token Ring.
(networking)Active Monitor - A process in an IBM token ring network which ensures a token is present on the ring, removes circulating frames with unknown or invalid destinations, and performs introductions between machines on the ring.
