ActiveX component

A software module based on Microsoft's Component Object Model (COM) architecture. Increasingly, Microsoft is using the term ActiveX to refer to a variety of its COM-based technologies. See ActiveX control, ActiveX Documents, ActiveX Server Component and COM.
