RDS (1) (Remote Data Services) A set of programming interfaces from Microsoft that enables users to update data on the Internet or intranets from their ActiveX-enabled browser. Formerly ADC (Advanced Data Connector), it was integrated into ADO (Active Data Objects) and renamed RDS. See ADO.(2) (Radio Data System) A series of enhancements for VHF and FM radio that started in Europe in the 1980s and migrated around the world. RDS has been adapted to radios of all prices. It provides a variety of features including a more precise way of tuning and an eight-character display of the station. For car radios, it provides traffic information as well as a way to tune in alternate frequencies for the same station. For more information, visit the RDS Forum Web site at www.rds.org.uk.
