Adverbial Participle
a verb form that represents one process as a feature of another—for example, chitaia, on dumal o drugom (“[while] reading, he was thinking of something else”). In Russian the adverbial participle retains the forms for aspect and voice, as well as verbal government, and refers to the same person or thing as the verb that it modifies. An adverbial participle lacks forms for tense, person, and number and in the sentence usually behaves as an adverbial modifier. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
