Tulcea
a judet (district) in southeast Rumania, in the northern Dobruja, mainly on the Danube delta. Area, 8,400 sq km. Population, 260,000 (1974). The administrative center is Tulcea. Tulcea District accounts for 0.5 percent of the country’s gross industrial product and 2.3 percent of its gross agricultural product. Industry includes food-processing (fish and canned fruit), metalworking, and woodworking; alumina and building materials are also produced. Agricultural crops include corn, wheat, sunflowers, vegetables, and grapes. The district has more than 500,000 head of sheep. Tulcea District is also an area of commercial fishing, cane-cutting, and tourism. Tulcea a city and port in Rumania, on the Danube delta. Administrative center of the jude( (district) of Tulcea. Population, 49,200 (1974). Tulcea is a major fishing center of Rumania.
