Afridis
(self-designation, Apridi), a group of Pushtun tribes, living in West Pakistan. They number approximately 500,000 (1967 estimate). They speak a dialect of East Pashto of the Iranian family of languages and practice Sunni Islam. They have preserved vestiges of a clan-tribal way of life. The Afridis engage in cattle breeding and agriculture. They participated in the anti-British uprising in Peshawar and its environs. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
