Afrifa, Akwazi Amankwa 

Born Apr. 24, 1936, in Mampong. State figure in the Republic of Ghana; brigadier general (since 1967). Graduated from a Presbyterian school and college.

Afrifa entered the army in 1957 and was sent to study at an English cadet school. From 1958 to 1960 he studied at the Sandhurst Royal Military Academy (England). He participated in the preparation of the military coup of Feb. 24, 1966 in Ghana and entered the National Liberation Council, in which he directed the ministries of finance, economy, and trade. From April to Sept. 3, 1969, he was chairman of the council. On Sept. 3, 1969, he became chairman of the Presidential Commission, which was dissolved by the National Assembly on July 30, 1970.
