Aggrey, James Emman Kwegyir

    0.04 sec.
Aggrey, James Emman Kwegyir (ĕm`ən kwĕg`yĭr ăg`rē), 1875–1927, African educator and missionary, b. Anamabu, Gold Coast (now Ghana). Educated at Livingstone College, he taught there for twenty years before entering Columbia for graduate study. In 1920 and 1924, he traveled on educational missions to Africa with the Phelps-Stokes Fund; at the conclusion of the second tour he was appointed Vice Principal of the Prince of Wales College at Achimota. For its shield he designed a symbolic piano keyboard that was emblematic of the need for black and white people to work together.
