Agha Jari

 

center of a large petroleum field discovered in southwestern Iran in 1943—44. It is connected by an oil pipeline with an oil refinery in Abadan. The oil field is being worked by an international oil consortium in which the USA, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and France are participating. In 1960, Agha Jari provided 64 percent of all the petroleum extracted in Iran.

Agha Jari was found in 1936 about 90 km south-east of Ahwaz but production did not begin until 1945.

The gas reached Agha Jari via a 3-km, 56-inch pipeline branching off from the IGAT-5 trunkline built from Bandar Assaluyeh's onshore gas treatment centre.
