Agilent

(Agilent Technologies, Santa Clara, CA, www.agilent.com) The test and measurement subsidiary of HP. In 1999, HP split off the division that started the company into an independent subsidiary named Agilent Technologies. At the time, the $2.1 billion offering broke records as the largest IPO in Silicon Valley history. Beyond its success as a test and measurement leader, other core areas for the company include communications, semiconductor products and life sciences. In 2003, Agilent's optical mouse sensor, a device that eliminated the need for mouse pads, shipped its 200th million unit. See HP.
