Aguilera Malta, Demetrio
Born May 24, 1909, in Guayaquil. Ecuadorian writer; pioneer in the literature of social protest. Aguilera Malta’s first stories (in the collective anthology They Who Leave, 1930) and the novels Don Goyo (1933) and Virgin Island (1942) were devoted to the life of the oppressed Ecuadorian half-breed, the so-called cholo.
