Aigner, Krystian Piotr
Baptized June 30, 1756, in Pulawy; died Feb. 9, 1841, in Florence. Polish classical architect and architectural theoretician. Aigner studied in Italy and subsequently became a professor in the department of fine arts at Warsaw University (from 1817). In his projects—for example, the reconstruction of the Radziwill Palace (the vicegerent’s palace; 1818–19) and the Church of St. Alexander (1818–25) in Warsaw, as well as the park pavilions and the church on the Pulawy estate (1800–1810)—Aigner strove for monumentally and simplicity of form. He also developed standardized plans for housing, public buildings, and industrial plants which were used extensively in Poland. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
