Gatserelia, Akakii Konstantinovich
Born Apr. 4 (17), 1909, in Poti. Soviet Georgian writer, literary critic. Honored Scholar of the Georgian SSR. Gatserelia graduated from the philology department of the University of Tbilisi in 1932. He began to publish his works in 1927. Gatserelia wrote such short stories as “Chir-Iurt” (1942), “The Death of Baratashvili” (1944), “Mouravi” (1945), and “The Artist’s Story” (1958). He is the author of a work on the theory and history of Georgian prosody, Georgian Classical Poetics During the Seventh to 18th Centuries (1953; 3rd ed., 1963), Sketches on Georgian Poetics (1938), and articles on Georgian and Russian writers, including F. M. Dostoevsky and Iu. N. Tynianov. Gatserelia edited an academic edition of the works of G. Orbeliani (1959). WORKSGatserelia, A. Rtcheuli natserebi, [vols.] 1-2.
