Al-Masirah

 

an island in the Arabian Sea belonging to Oman. It extends for 70 km along the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, from which it is separated by the shallow Masirah Channel. Along the coast there are coral reefs in some places. Area, approximately 680 sq km. The terrain consists mainly of plains and hills (elevation, to 276 m) composed primarily of igneous rock and limestone. The climate is dry and tropical and supports little vegetation (xerophytic shrubs and occasional date palms). There is fishing. In the north there is a settlement at Dawwah.

According to Arabic-language al-Masirah television network, Yemeni troops and their allies fatally shot 14 Saudi soldiers in the al-Alab border crossing of the region on Wednesday, presstv reported.
