Alabaster Caverns State Park Location: 6 miles south of Freedom on SH 50, then 0.5 miles east on Highway 50A. Facilities: 20 campsites (semi-modern and primitive), comfort stations, showers, picnic area, picnic shelter, trails, visitor center (é). Activities: Camping, hiking, volleyball, spelunking, guided cave tours, interpretive programs. Special Features: The 0.75-mile-long underground cavern is the nation's largest gypsum cave open to guided tours, offering visitors the opportunity to view massive boulders of pink, white, and even rare black alabaster. From March to September, park visitors may also explore five undeveloped caves.
