Size: 30,665 acres. Length: 69 miles.
Established: Authorized on December 2, 1980.
Location: Located 290 miles southwest of Anchorage, the Alagnak River flows from Kukaklek Lake in Katmai National Park & Preserve, situated in the Aleutian Range in southern Alaska. The area is inaccessible by road; charter flights are available from Anchorage and King Salmon or access is via power boat from any of the villages along the river.
Facilities: Visitor center at King Salmon.
Activities: Rafting (both scenic and whitewater), fishing, wildlife viewing, primitive camping.
Special Features: Meandering west towards Bristol Bay and the Bering Sea, the Alagnak traverses the beautiful Alaska Peninsula, providing an outstanding opportunity to experience the unique wilderness, wildlife, and cultural heritage of southwest Alaska. Its popularity among anglers around the world has also made it one of the most popular fishing destinations in the region.
