Alaverdian, Stepan Karapetovich
Born 1888; died Aug. 14, 1920. Active participant in the struggle for Soviet rule in Armenia.
Alaverdian was born in the city of Kutaisi into the family of an office worker. He was a member of the CPSU from 1904. He did party work in Moscow, Tiflis, Kutaisi, and Yerevan. He graduated from the economics department of the Moscow Commercial Institute in 1915. In 1917 he was the leader of the Bolshevik faction of the soviet of the city of Sankamis (now in Turkey). In September 1919 he was elected to the leading center of the Communist organizations of Armenia, the Armenian Committee of the RCP (Bolshevik). In 1920 he was one of the leaders of the armed uprising against the Dashnaki (Armenian Nationalist Party) and the interventionist forces. He was arrested and shot by the Dashnaks.
