Alazan, Vagram 

(pseudonym of Vagram Martirosovich Gabuzian). Born May 6 (19), 1903, in Van, Turkey; died May 17, 1966, in Yerevan. Soviet Armenian writer.

Alazan was born into the family of an artisan. In 1915 his family moved to Yerevan. His literary activity dates from 1921. Alazan was one of the organizers of the Association of Proletarian Writers of Armenia. He published the collection of poems Summer’s Play in 1923, the book Songs of Construction Projects and Victories in 1928, and the collection of poems The Struggle in 1933. Some of Alazan’s poems are excessively rhetorical. In 1934, Alazan published the novel On the Sixtieth Horizon about the life of the working people of the Alaverdi copper mines. He is also the author of the collections The Poet’s Heart (1954) and Horizons (1957), the novel The North Star (1956), and the literary memoir Remembrances (1960).
