denatured alcohol [dē′nā·chərd ′al·kə‚hȯl]
(chemistry)
Ethyl alcohol containing a poisonous substance, such as methyl alcohol or benzene, which makes it unfit for human consumption.

Denatured Alcohol

undistilled ethyl alcohol to which have been added substances of unpleasant odor or taste that are soluble in alcohol and not removable by the simplest physicochemical means (for example, by distillation, freezing out, or filtration). Pyridine bases are the main denaturing agents. Dyes are generally also added to denatured alcohol, giving it a bluish violet color. Denatured alcohol is usually labeled “poison.” It is used as a solvent for lacquers and polishes and for other industrial purposes.
