Alei

(in its upper reaches, the Eastern Alei), left tributary of the upper Ob’ in the Altai Krai of the RSFSR. Its length is 858 km, and the area of its basin is about 21,100 sq km. Much of its course runs on the Ob’ plateau. Fed mainly by snow (in the mountains) and rain, the Alei has an average flow of 33.8 cu m per sec. It freezes in November, and the ice breaks up in April. Water from the river is used for irrigation. The valleys of the Alei and its tributaries are heavily populated; the cities of Rubtsovsk and Aleisk are located on the Alei.

The ALEI was created after the Maryland General Assembly gave the University System of Maryland a direct assignment in 2011: preserve Maryland's family farms by helping their owners address the complicated legal issues associated with agricultural estates and trusts, regulatory compliance, and other agricultural law issues.
This needs assessment will better help the members of ALEI and the general public understand the legal issues impacting Maryland's agricultural community and direct efforts to assist farmers.
Later this year and early next year, the ALEI will conduct another survey to determine if additional issues are impacting Maryland agricultural operations.
