Alekperov, Alesker Gadzhi Aga Ogly 

Born Nov. 15, 1910; died Jan. 31, 1963. Soviet Azerbaijan actor, a People’s Artist of the USSR (1961). Joined the CPSU in 1944.

Alekperov began his stage career in 1927, becoming an actor of the Azizbekov Theater of Azerbaijan (Baku) in 1933. The characters he created were distinguished by dramatic force and powerful temperament. He played mainly tragic roles: the title roles in Vagif (by Samed Vurgun) and Othello (Shakespeare). Also among his best roles were Khanlar (by Samed Vurgun), Gatyr Mamed (Z. Khalil), Gachakh Nabi (S. Rustam), and Dzhavanshir (M. Gusein) and the role of Alkhan in Torrents of Spring (by Efendiev). Alekperov also played character roles, including Salamov in 1905 (by Dzhabarly). Beginning in 1929, he appeared in films, including House on a Volcano, Kendliliar, and On Distant Shores. He was awarded the Order of Lenin and two other orders.
