Alekseev, Aleksandr Emel’ianovich

 

Born Nov. 15 (27), 1891, in the village of Sorokino, now in Kalinin Oblast. Soviet scientist, specialist in electrical engineering. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1953).

Alekseev graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Electrical Engineering in 1925. He has been a professor at the Leningrad Institute of Railroad Engineering since 1936 and has also worked at the Institute of Electrical Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR since 1953.

Alekseev’s main research has been on the theory of electrical machines and the methods of designing them. He has worked out a theory and a method of ventilation and thermal designs of electrical machines, as well as a methodology of designing them and a methodology of mechanical designs. He is also concerned with questions of electric traction with DC and AC using semiconductor transformers for the frequency regulation of asynchronic traction engines. He participated in the building of a rail-welding machine. He was awarded State Prizes of the USSR in 1949 and 1951, as well as the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and various medals.
