Nikol’skii, Aleksandr Sergeevich
Born Mar. 20 (Apr. 1), 1884, in Sartov; died July 16, 1953, in Leningrad. Soviet architect. Nikol’skii graduated from the Institute of Civil Engineering in St. Petersburg in 1912. He also taught there, becoming a professor from 1928. From 1925 to 1932 he headed the Leningrad Society of Modern Architects. From 1920 to 1930, Nikol’skii worked on construction projects in Leningrad, including Traktornaia Street, the Serafimov section of Kirov Raion, and schools on Stachek Avenue and in the Lesnoi section. Nikol’skii constructed a number of large sports facilities, including the S. M. Kirov Stadium (with spectator stands on an artificial earthen hill) in Leningrad (1932–50, with other architects; State Prize of the USSR, 1951). REFERENCEKhidekel’, L. M. “Arkhitektor A. S.
