Aleksandrov, Aleksandr Petrovich 

Born Dec. 4 (17), 1906, in the village of Khotilitsy, in present-day Ve-likie Luki Raion, Pskov Oblast. Soviet construction engineer; twice Hero of Socialist Labor (1952, 1961); member of the CPSU since 1940.

Aleksandrov was graduated from the Central Asian Highway Institute in Tashkent in 1933. He worked on the construction of the Volga-Don navigational canal in 1948 and was chief of administration for the construction of the Tsimliansk hydroengineering complex and the Don irrigation system in 1952–53. Aleksandrov directed the right bank construction administration of the Kuibyshev hydroelectric construction project in 1953–56 and has been chief of the Volgograd hydroelectric construction administration since 1956. He was the chief Soviet expert on the construction of the Aswan High Dam (Egypt) during 1962–66. He was deputy minister of the Power Industry and Electrification Ministry of the USSR since 1966. Aleksandrov received four Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and various medals.
