Aleksandrov, Kirill Sergeevich 

Born Jan 9, 1931, in Leningrad. Soviet physicist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1972). Member of the CPSU since 1953.

Aleksandrov graduated from the Leningrad Electrical Engineering Institute in 1954. From 1954 to 1958, he was on the staff of the Institute of Crystallography of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In 1958 he joined the staff of the L. V. Kirenskii Institute of Physics of the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR; he became the deputy director of the institute in 1968. He was also appointed a professor at the University of Krasnoiarsk in 1971.

Aleksandrov’s main works deal with solid-state physics. Aleksandrov investigated the propagation of elastic waves in anisotropic media and developed methods of studying the elastic properties of single crystals, textured materials, and polycrystalline materials. He also wrote important works devoted to the microscopic causes and mechanisms of phase transitions in crystals.

Aleksandrov has been awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples and various medals.
